Reassessment of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia phenotype.

چکیده
Standard microbiology references describe Stenotrophomonas maltophilia as oxidase negative and variable with respect to utilization of lactose and sucrose. Analysis of a collection of 766 S. maltophilia isolates indicated that approximately 20% are oxidase positive and that this species should be reevaluated for other phenotypes, including oxidative fermentation of lactose and sucrose.

Involvement of mutation in ampD I, mrcA, and at least one additional gene in β-lactamase hyperproduction in Stenotrophomonas maltophilia.
It has been reported that targeted disruption of ampD I or mrcA causes β-lactamase hyperproduction in Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. We show here that β-lactamase-hyperproducing laboratory selected mutants and clinical isolates can have wild-type ampD I and mrcA genes, implicating mutation of at least one additional gene in this phenotype. The involvement of mutations at multiple loci in the act...
متن کاملAntimicrobial Resistance Pattern of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia Isolates from a Tertiary Care Setting in Rawalpindi, Pakistan
Introduction: Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is intrinsically resistant to many antimicrobials. Like Pseudomonas spp., this bacterium has a remarkable ability to cause infections, particularly in the respiratory and urinary tracts. This study aims to determine the antimicrobial resistance pattern of S. maltophilia isolates collected from a tertiary care setting and frequency of multi, extensively...
متن کاملPreservation of topoisomerase genetic sequences during in vivo and in vitro development of high-level resistance to ciprofloxacin in isogenic Stenotrophomonas maltophilia strains.
OBJECTIVES To ascertain the participation of topoisomerase mutations in the development of ciprofloxacin resistance in isogenic Stenotrophomonas maltophilia mutants. METHODS gyrAB and parCE sequences in three paired in vivo isogenic ciprofloxacin-susceptible (MIC range 0.5-4 mg/L) and resistant (16-128 mg/L) S. maltophilia strains (PFGE-characterized) sequentially isolated from three patients...
متن کاملEvolution of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia in Cystic Fibrosis Lung over Chronic Infection: A Genomic and Phenotypic Population Study
Stenotrophomonas maltophilia has been recognized as an emerging multi-drug resistant opportunistic pathogen in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. We report a comparative genomic and phenotypic analysis of 91 S. maltophilia strains from 10 CF patients over a 12-year period. Draft genome analyses included in silico Multi-Locus Sequence Typing (MLST), Single-Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs), and pangen...
متن کاملPneumonia caused by Stenotrophomonas maltophilia with a mucoid phenotype.
We describe the first known case of pneumonia caused by a mucoid Stenotrophomonas maltophilia (Xanthomonas maltophilia) strain in a patient with bronchiectasis. The patient was admitted because of mild hemoptysis and productive cough with infiltrative shadow in the right lower lung field on chest X ray. The clinical symptoms were mild, and treatment with minocycline was effective.
